Sierra Club Honors Tracy Earth Project Founder Dotty Nygard

Tracy, CA--Dotty Nygard, the founder and CEO of Tracy Earth Project, was awarded “Community Organizer of the Year” by the Sierra Club Mother Lode chapter. The award recognizes Nygard’s contributions to Tracy through her work with the Tracy Earth Project, Tracy Green Business Network, and Tracy Bike Life Youth Program.

This award is presented annually by the Mother Lode chapter to honor excellence in community organizing.The chapter encompasses eleven local Sierra Club groups in twenty-four counties in Northern and Central California.

”This recognition is not just a personal achievement, but a testament to the collective efforts and unwavering commitment of the extraordinary team at Tracy Earth Project,” said Nygard. “We all share a passion and that passion is for our environment to be a healthy and vital space to live.”

Nygard was introduced by Margo Praus, who received the Mother Lode Chapter Service Award. 

Praus spoke about Nygard’s transition from emergency room nurse to community organizer. “When she retired, she took her nursing assessment skills, her caring, her passion for environmental sustainability and community resilience beyond the hospital walls to the entire community.” 

The award ceremony was held on August 17 at the Antiquité Maison Privée in Sacramento California.
